There have been some recent announcements to assist some of our local clients.

Mayor Sarah Carter announced yesterday planned measures to further assist small business in the Maribyrnong City Council area effected by COVID-19.

The first phase of the support package will be implemented to help business cope with the financial impact of the Coronavirus.

“Small business is the lifeblood of our community”

Sarah Carter, Mayor of Maribyrnong City Council.

Eligible commercial businesses will be able to defer the payments towards the next two quarterly (May and September) rate payments. These quarters will also have 50% subsidised from the payments, with any interest on overdue payments waived.

All food registration and outdoor trading permits paid in the current financial year will be refunded to businesses.

Commercial tenants of Council owned property will benefit from 50% of their rental costs, up until the 30th of June 2020, discounted.

There is also some positive news for new businesses starting in the next 6 months, as a host of planning applications fees are planned to be waived.
